Threads: What Is It?

New forms of technology and communication are introduced to society each day. Some are made to help us in our day-to-day lives while others are purely forms of entertainment. In this article, we’ll be taking a look at the latest social media platform that’s been taking the community by storm—Threads.

Threads was released by Meta on July 5, 2023, as a platform made for sharing personal text updates and joining public conversations. That’s, really, all there is to it! Getting started with Threads is an easy process, especially if you’re already familiar with Instagram. Threads is essentially a new part of Instagram, but still has its own app. Think of it as a new branch sprouting from the Meta family tree.

Getting Started with Threads: How Do I Sign Up?

For starters, an Instagram account is required in order for you to use Threads. Thus, explaining why it’s easier to get started with Threads if you already have & are familiar with Instagram. If you don’t already have an Instagram, you will first need to create one by downloading the Instagram app, then selecting Create New Account from the login page. Within your new or existing Instagram profile page, select the three horizontal lines in the upper right-hand corner, then tap Threads from the list of options that show up. After that, you’ll be taken through the Threads profile creation process.

How to Make the Most of Threads: Utilizing it for Business

Even though Threads pulls things like your followers, feed, and recommended content from your Instagram account, building your foundation on Threads is still key. There are several ways to do this, but here are some places to start:

One of the key features of Threads is the automatically follow ability. During the creation of your Threads profile, and any time after for that matter, you can choose to automatically follow all the profiles that you already follow on Instagram. This will, in turn, give you a community to interact with immediately—truly allowing you to hit the ground running with your new profile. The opposite of this is also true, however! Should any of your Instagram followers who use Threads choose the automatically follow option, then they will already be following you once your Threads profile is set up. This means that, within the first 30 seconds of profile creation, you might already have tens, hundreds, maybe even thousands of followers. If you’re going to be using Threads for your business, we recommend choosing to use the automatically follow feature to lay the groundwork for your community. Then, start interacting with said community! The more you post updates, ask thought-provoking questions, or use alluring conversation starters, the more traffic and interaction your page will get. What kind of things should you be posting, though?

Well, when it comes to what to post, that’s going to depend on what kind of community you’re looking to foster. We would ultimately recommend keeping your Threads posts light-humored or casual while still getting a point across. This is a bit easier to do since Threads allows you to post GIFs and attach links & images to your posts. This should, really, be a guideline for all of your social media posts for your business across any platform though. Threads also has a post length limit of 500 characters, which means you can get a bit more descriptive than you might in a regular Instagram post. Don’t forget to include a Call-to-Action (CTA) for your viewers to interact with! An example of a Threads post for your business might look like this:
